HVAC Consulting

HVAC design is often missing entirely from residential construction in Northern NY. We provide that missing piece of the construction puzzle. We work with multiple energy modeling software’s to provide you with an accurate heat load calculation for sizing of the system. We can also provide recommendations to duct design and system recommendations, however we do not install the systems, meaning we won’t sell you the system that works for us. We recommend the system(s) that works best for the house, the brand is up to you.

Energy Code Consulting

The NYS Energy Conservation Code gets more complex with every passing code cycle. Take the energy code burden off your mind by partnering with S55S. We have a conversational approach to find the best method of complying with code while allowing you to build the way that you want to. We aren’t locked into the prescriptive energy code, we can help you follow the energy rating index path to code compliance. This pathway allows an energy model to be made to show compliance instead of following the prescriptive path to compliance, which allows our clients more flexibility in the way that they build.

Energy Testing

We provide blower door, duct leakage testing and more diagnostic testing for both new construction and existing homes. Testing can be a great place to start if you are looking at a potential insulation or HVAC project. Our tests can tell you where your money would be best spent on upgrading your home to make you more comfortable.

If you are building a new home through the prescriptive path, these tests are required in NYS. Partner with us early on in the build process to help ensure you are ready for these tests when it comes time for them. The most expensive time to fix problems is when the house is finished, bring us in as early as possible for the best results.

Envelope Consulting

Envelope consulting can take a set of vague plans and bring it to a fully realized approach to building your envelope. Air sealing, insulation, and water management are all critical to the long term integrity of your building. We can help recommend new approaches or just help you be sure that you are using the current methods and materials in a way that provides a durable home.
